Lake Havasu Arizona is often described as an oasis in the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. The lake is, indeed, a surprising sapphire-colored jewel that sits in the middle of the arid desert along U.S. Highway 95 between Bullhead City and Parker, just a short drive from both Phoenix and Las Vegas. Lake Havasu City has a population of over 45,000 residents, and is situated on a hillside that overlooks the lake and mountains. It attracts many new residents each year, who come to Lake Havasu City to retire permanently, while others purchase a second home and come to escape the harsh winters of the East Coast. Still others love the yearlong warm weather and recreational opportunities and have decided to settle here with their families. Due to affordable housing, many visitors own second homes in Lake Havasu City and spend six months or longer here. Whatever you are in the market for, a family home, vacation home, condo, apartment or mobile home, Lake Havasu has lots to offer. Many homes and condos are also available as vacation rentals as well as for sale. For those who choose to live here year round, Lake Havasu has five elementary schools, a junior high and high school, and also the Mojave Community College. Shopping is convenient and abundant and there are numerous restaurants in Lake Havasu offering a wide variety of menus. A 99 room hospital has 24 hour emergency care services, and the staff is made up of 60 physicians. An assisted living retirement home is located in Lake Havasu City, as well as the Lake Havasu Nursing Center.

Lake Havasu is best known for its boating, fishing and sightseeing, and for being the new home to the historically famous London Bridge. Many who come to Lake Havasu are quite surprised to find that the bridge is the real thing – and not a gimmick. You can take a cruise on an authentic paddlewheel boat across the lake, and explore for trinkets and treasures in an authentic English Village – all at the same place. The backcountry surrounding the Lake is virtually undiscovered by the many tourists and outdoor enthusiasts and offers miles of quiet, seldom-visited lands including 6 wilderness areas, historic mines, abandoned town sites, unique wildlife, interesting geology and numerous trails and roads for adventurers who like to explore. The diverse landscape ranges from sand dunes and rugged canyons to mountains and basins, and adding to the textures and shapes of the region are the diverse flora and fauna. Towering Saguaro Cactus stand guard along the hillsides, along with Ocotillo, barrel and prickly pear cactus, Bighorn Sheep, Coyotes and over 200 species of birds and wildlife. The Bill Williams National Wildlife Refuge is located at the south end of the lake. It’s a fascinating region of the country, especially for those who love exploring the “out of the way” places and the “road less traveled.” Whether you come for a week, a month, six months or permanently, Lake Havasu and Lake Havasu City offer a cool bit of paradise in the Arizona desert.
